Ex-Rental Motorhome Refurbishments

When an ex-rental motorhome reaches the end of its fleet life, its presentation can influence buyer interest, resale value and how quickly it sells.

RnR Refinish has more than 10 years of experience preparing rental motorhomes and campervans for sale. We work with fleet operators to create refurbishment scopes based on the vehicle’s age, condition, target sale price and available budget.

Rather than treating every vehicle like a complete restoration, we focus attention on the areas most likely to improve its presentation and commercial value. Work can include panel and paint repairs, fibreglass repairs, cut and polishing, decal ghosting removal, interior refurbishment, cosmetic repairs and final detailing.

Fixed-price scopes are available for suitable fleet programs, with free pickup and delivery for eligible commercial work and an average fleet turnaround of approximately 6.1 days.

Sale Preparation Based on Commercial Value

Ex-rental vehicles can vary considerably in age, condition and intended sale position. Some require little more than paint correction and cosmetic attention, while others need panel repairs, refinishing, fibreglass work or interior refurbishment.

Our experience helps identify where refurbishment spending is most likely to improve the overall appearance of the vehicle without adding unnecessary work.

For fleet operators managing multiple sale vehicles, repeat scopes and fixed pricing can also make disposal costs easier to forecast.

Decal Ghosting Removal

Removing fleet graphics is often one of the biggest challenges when preparing an ex-rental motorhome for sale.

After years of sun exposure, the paint or fibreglass surrounding a decal may fade differently from the protected area underneath. Once the graphics are removed, their outline can remain visible as decal ghosting.

Traditional correction may require repainting a large section of the vehicle, which can make the refurbishment commercially unviable.

RnR Refinish has developed repair methods that can reduce or remove decal ghosting without automatically requiring a large-area respray. The correct method depends on the original finish, age of the graphics and degree of colour difference.

This can produce a cleaner sale appearance while keeping refurbishment costs under control.

Panel, Paint and Exterior Refurbishment

Rental motorhomes and campervans regularly accumulate scratches, minor dents, bumper damage, stone chips, faded paint and marks from branches, posts and campsite obstacles.

RnR Refinish can combine suitable repairs into one sale preparation scope. Work may include panel repairs, fibreglass restoration, paint refinishing, cut and polishing, bumper repairs and graphic removal.

Our large spray facilities can accommodate substantial recreational vehicles, allowing body and paint work to be managed within the same refurbishment program.

Interior Refurbishment

Years of rental use can also leave wear inside the vehicle.

Cabinetry, wall panels, trims, doors and other high-use areas may need attention before the motorhome is presented to a private buyer.

Where commercially worthwhile, selected interior repairs can be incorporated into the refurbishment scope so the vehicle receives both exterior and interior attention during the same workshop cycle.

The RnR Signature

Selected commercial fleet partners can also receive a complimentary RnR Signature as part of their refurbishment program.

This is an additional finishing enhancement placed in a chosen area of the vehicle to improve its sale presentation. Each version is developed for the individual fleet customer and is not reused across competing businesses.

How Our Sale Vehicle Refurbishment Process Works

1. Fleet Vehicles Are Nominated for Sale

Your fleet team advises RnR Refinish which motorhomes, campervans or caravans are being removed from rental service and prepared for sale.

The vehicles can be handled individually or grouped into a planned disposal program.

2. Collection and Vehicle Rotation

Eligible vehicles can be collected free of charge from the fleet location.

For ongoing programs, a completed unit can be returned as the next vehicle is collected, helping the fleet maintain a predictable flow through the refurbishment process.

3. RnR Documents the Refurbishment Scope

Your fleet staff do not need to prepare a detailed list of every cosmetic defect.

Our team inspects the vehicle and identifies the areas that should be included within the agreed refurbishment standard. This reduces administration for the fleet branch and creates a more consistent approach across multiple vehicles.

4. Cut and Polish

Where suitable, the vehicle is cut and polished before the main body repairs begin.

This improves the existing finish, removes correctable surface marks and allows the repair team to identify the areas that genuinely require further work.

5. Remove, Repair and Prime

Damaged components and panels move through the remove and repair stage.

Where appropriate, panel technicians complete preparation and priming as part of the same production workflow, reducing unnecessary handovers between stages.

6. Express Primer Curing

Suitable primer systems allow prepared areas to move forward quickly, with some repair stages reaching paint readiness after approximately 30 minutes of curing.

This supports shorter production cycles without bypassing the preparation required for the final finish.

7. Paint Preparation and Refinishing

The vehicle moves into final paint preparation before the repaired areas are refinished.

Where applicable, the controlled bake cycle allows the coating system to cure before the motorhome progresses to reassembly.

8. Refit, Buff and Detail

Removed components are refitted and repaired areas receive their final finish.

The vehicle is then buffed and detailed so the exterior can be assessed as a complete sale vehicle rather than as a series of individual repairs.

9. Dedicated Quality Control

Every completed refurbishment passes through RnR Refinish’s dedicated quality-control area.

Specialist lighting allows the team to inspect body panels, repaired areas, paint finish and overall presentation before the vehicle is released.

10. Return to the Fleet

Once the vehicle passes quality control, the keys return to our office and eligible vehicles are scheduled for free delivery back to the fleet location.

The vehicle can then proceed to photography, advertising, sale preparation or the fleet company’s chosen disposal channel.

Fast, Repeatable Fleet Refurbishment

Once a vehicle leaves rental service, time spent waiting for refurbishment delays its move into the sale market.

RnR Refinish structures its workflow around clearly defined production stages, common repair methods and advance parts planning. Our current fleet work averages approximately 6.1 days key-to-key, although individual refurbishment times depend on vehicle condition and the agreed scope.

For larger fleet programs, vehicles can be scheduled in batches to maintain a consistent flow through our Brisbane facility.

Supporting Fleet Operators Across Australia

Our main focus is ex-rental motorhomes and campervans, with caravan hire fleets also supported.

RnR Refinish can manage individual vehicles or larger disposal programs, including interstate fleet work where transport and volume make the program commercially practical.

Our refurbishment capabilities can also be applied to selected specialist vehicles, trucks, machinery and commercial equipment where panel, paint, fibreglass or cosmetic preparation is required before sale.

Why Fleet Operators Choose RnR Refinish

Sale preparation requires a different mindset from accident repair. The objective is to improve presentation and maximise practical resale value without overspending on work that buyers are unlikely to value.

More than a decade of sale vehicle preparation has helped RnR Refinish develop repeatable repair scopes, recognise common presentation issues and refine methods such as decal ghosting removal.

Fleet customers can also benefit from fixed pricing, vehicle collection, consistent quality control and one point of contact across repeat refurbishments.
