Why RV Leak Detection Needs a Specialist

Caravans and motorhomes use large amounts of sealant to bond and secure components inside & out. Once water gains access will work its way down and in most cases will end up in the floor or cabinetry lower areas with nowhere to escape and in most cases won’t dry out and continue to cause damage. Timber floor constructions will rot over time and composite will create low points and water will pool internally until soft spots become clear and can be noticed when walking on, In some extreme cases mushrooms can even grow within these areas if not actioned appropriately.

A simple small damage to the roof or pool seals can cause extensive damage to rectify. We inspect for damage and often repair it through insurance claims, which can involve rebuilding cabinetry and replacing floor sections. Water damage can also come from leaks entering anywhere in the van, not just directly underneath the entry point. Often, we find customers unaware of small roof damage that can cause major problems.

Our Moisture Detection Methods (The Right Way)

We use a combination of advanced technology and controlled testing to locate water ingress for all leak detection tests.

1. Thermal Imaging Moisture Scanning

This is by far the most accurate method available and is setting the new standard for the industry. Our calibrated scanners provide factual data, precise moisture-level measurements, and high-resolution images of affected areas.

Non-Destructive: There is absolutely zero risk of damage to your seals, caravan, or motorhome.
Visual Evidence: Scans generate clear images using multiple colour palettes to highlight temperature & moisture pockets, providing undeniable proof for insurance claims or peace of mind.

2. Targeted Moisture Reading

Used as a supporting tool, traditional moisture reading provides clear indications of water entry. Because probe-based readers require pushing prongs into the surface, We only use selective Digital & Pinless models to avoid damaging unaffected flooring or interior walls or any location on your RV.

If a repairer tests your RV with a reader but cannot provide you with the factual numerical results, the test is incomplete. Moisture readings are not suitable for all componentry types and why we use a combination within our tests.

3. Controlled Water Testing

For hardware, roof hatches, storage doors, and external fittings, controlled water testing is highly effective and testing water entry using implemented rainfall is simple and very effective. In our specialised detail bay, we use an expanding tube system to simulate consistent, average rainfall over specific areas . When combined with our leak detection scans and moisture readings, this immediately identifies active entry points.

4. Damage & Seals Inspection

Our leak detection testing also comes with a visual check over to all roof seals as well as roof damage, which is common cause of water entry we find, As access to your caravan or motorhome roof isn’t easy or simple for majority of our customer we often find cause of leaks to be a damaged fibreglass or aluminium cladding roof, hail damage or broken componentry and a disruption to the seals.

In most cases, this can be repaired under an insurance claim, and the water damage caused by external damage is included. We provide support, options, and recommendations, and for all insurance leak detection tests we simply require a claim number; we manage the rest.

Many leak detection tests are also provided through insurance claims, and we are a specialist for all major insurance companies. This is subject to your policy, and we can’t authorise it; it must come from your insurer.
