Fiamma Rollout Awnings
Fiamma manufacture wind out awnings that attach to the wall campervans, RV’s and caravans with a strong cross section profile as standard, allowing awnings to span to 4.5m in length. Span lengths of 5.0m are also available using a larger cross sectional profile.
Fiamma awnings are housed in a solid aluminium case and have no protrusions or any visible arms while travelling. These awnings use a detachable winder handle to extend the awning which allows the front face of the aluminium case to travel out horizontally, similar to a verandah. This motion pulls out the fabric as front face with the telescopic legs unclipping from within the front face housing for additional vertical stability.
Fiamma caravan awnings are easily opened by one person with the supports legs being either clipped to the base on your vehicle or secured to the ground using pegs
Campervans, caravans and motorhomes which have vertically curving walls are ideally suited to Fiamma rollout awning installations, as well as all other styles of RV’s.
Fiamma Bag Awnings
The Caravan Store Bag Awning series is one of Fiamma's most popular types of cheaper rollout awnings. As the name indicates the key point of difference is that the awning is stored within a vinyl style bag when stowed away for traveling. The awning is attached to the vehicle by using a sail track which is about 140mm in depth. In the majority of cases the bag and awning is permanently attached to the vehicle, but some people do remove them, preferring only to have them fitted when traveling on holidays and touring. The setup is also quite simple and can be performed quickly by unzipping the bag along the full length, with the fabric being quickly unwound while supporting the roller in the centre. The support legs and structural braces slide from the roller ends and vertically pivot into position.
Carefree Awnings
American made Carefree rollout awnings are a very popular awning, with numerous models available. The Fiesta range is Carefree’s most popular rollout awning in both the Australian and USA caravanning industry. Carefree’s smart yet simple designs are easy to setup and are highly durable, which is why they are a common feature on Jayco caravans. Carefree also manufacture the Freedom range of motorised caravan awnings. In recent years the Freedom range has grown in popularity and is also supported by a full-range of readily available spare parts.
Carefree Fiesta Awning
The Fiesta, or the Simplicity Fiesta rollout awnings are also made in USA and are commonplace on caravans and RV’s throughout Australia. This style has a roll at the top with the arms being held to the base of the caravan or RV by using clips. Just like a traditional roll-up awning the operation is performed by easily unwinding the awning using a web strap. The support legs can be extended to get the preferred roof height while also having extension bars to brace the roof so that the fabric is held taut. The option of pegging the legs to the ground or attaching to the base of the vehicle is available.
This style of rollout awning is best suited to caravans, pop-tops and any flat-sided motorhome. Camper trailers as well as many curved walled campervans are not suited for this range of rollout awning.
Dometic Awnings
Dometic are well known for their A&E range of rollout awnings with the Dometic brand being considered a market leader in the Australian caravan industry, particularly when it comes to caravan fridges. Over the last decade, Dometic have released several models of rollout awnings including 8300, 8500 and the 9000. Most recently Dometic Australia has discontinued the 9000 model due to lack of popularity and have simplified their product range by creating universal fittings or hardware kits.
Dometic have expanded their rollout awning family by adding box or cassette awnings to their range. To provide an even wider range of solutions within the Australian caravanning market, Dometic have transformed their Proctor Awnings product into the PerfectWakk and PerfectRoof series, which are now in direct competition with the F45 and F65 awnings manufactured by Fiamma.
Dometic Australia have a solid reputation for holding a good range of spare parts, but generally their rollout awnings are considered a bit overpriced in the Australian market.
